Living in Upstate, NY, near Albany, I'm learning to use coupons and save lots. A new year and new me. Hopefully saving more than I am spending!

Yay Bread!
Out and about buying veggie plants and flowers today, I passed by a Freihofer's outlet and popped in to see if they had a few things for my Dad. He's a big fan but I am never near an outlet. Score! Though I later realized that they over-charged me for a few things. I didn't catch it while in the store and was not about to drive back for a few bucks. It was all still a fraction of the price in a grocery store!

FREE Bagels At Bruegger's Today
Click HERE to print out a coupon for three free bagels at Bruegger's (before 2PM) today. Oh how I wish I could eat gluten. Bagels are in my top five favorite foods. Bruegger's everything bagel is awesome. And their once upon a time limited addition rosemary olive oil bagel was To Die For!

All my fellow GF-ers alerted me to this awesome $2/1 coupon for Rudi's bread on their Facebook page. I admit that I am an Udi's girl. But a LOT of my friends really like Rudi's too. Remember that you should be able to print two coupons. I was only able to print one coupon/computer- not sure if you will have better luck printing out two. Click HERE to like Rudi's and print the $2 coupon!

My Coupons Didn't Expire or The Best Feeling A Couponer Can Have.
Confession. I have been sooo behind in organizing my coupons. It happened to me this summer after being out of town a ton and then again in December when I was so super busy. But what I thought was going to be a January of organization and accelerated couponing, has in reality been sort of a flop on my part. Just keeping it real around here. I've failed nearly all of my goals for this blog/my couponing progress.
And that, my sweet couponaholic friends, is just life.
But this week, despite being behind in three projects, I took action. One is a huge work project that I needed to finish more than a week ago and has at least another week left on it. But I knew for my sanity and bank account that I needed to tackle the coupon mountain that was growing each Sunday.
So I organized. Clipped. Sorted. Cleaned out old, expired coupons. And inserted all my new coupons in my binders.
Do you hear the choirs of angels singing joyfully? No? Well trust me, the singing is there. Even if just in my crazy head. I am officially ORGANIZED! And it feels spectacular. Whew!
In this process, I realized that two coveted coupons for gluten free products (rare rare rare) were going to expire yesterday.
The first (I only had one) was for a new to me product, $1.50/1 Van's gluten free waffles. Not something I would typically purchase but sometimes you just need a treat. I'll be back to let you know if they taste anything like Eggo.
The second (I had two) was for my favorite gluten free company ever. $1/1 Udi's bread product. The bagels were on sale this week for $5.59. I used my doublers to get the four pack of bagels down to just $3.59. Which is an awesome deal for Udi's! If I were to have a top ten food list, it would absolutely include bagels. I bet my top three list would too actually. Udi's is not the same as a fresh Bruggers bagel. BUT...it is the closest thing I have found in gluten free form. They are really good and just make me joyful to have such a favorite ready to eat in the freezer. It's the little things in life!
Even after coupons, these were not exactly cheap purchases, as far as extreme couponing goes. And yet I still consider them to be awesome deals! I have hope that with the continued popularity of couponing and consuming a gluten free diet, we will see more coupons for GF/celiac friendly products in the future.
Isn't it just the best feeling to find those coveted super high value coupons and actually use them before they expire?! Yay for me and my starchy stocked freezer!

Organic, Gluten Free and Whole Food Coupon
I get so defensive when people claim that one cannot eat healthy and use coupons. That coupons are exclusively for processed and crappy foods.
First things first, we all have our own invisible lines. What's crappy to you is not so to your friend. And while I think organic is awesome, I personally feel very strongly that any vegetable (fresh, organic, canned, frozen) is better than no vegetable. So if non-organic apples are on sale, they are what come home with me that week. The way I see it, an apple is still better than a Snickers. But others might feel strongly that any apple other than an organic apple from the farmer down the road is sacrilege. See...wavy lines in the sand.
But that's not really my point. Rather that there are in fact coupons to be found for favorite healthy products. Including produce.
Pom frequently puts out coupons that can be used for both bottles of their Pom Wonderful juice and whole pommegranites found in the produce section. Dole also puts out coupons for their salad greens. There are produce coupons and they even appear in the Sunday coupon inserts. You can also find great coupons for organic cheese, organic yogurt, organic, soy and almond milks too.
But I will admit that they are not seen as frequently as coupons for fruit rolls ups. So there. I admit you will find more coupons like that. Oh that is if you are ONLY looking in the Sunday inserts.
My best advice is to look online for print coupons. Every product has a company behind it. Even apples and lettuce. Look at the tag in the store to figure out the parent company. Then go home and Swagbucks (it's the new and better google that pays you to search!) to find the website. They won't always offer a coupon. But I'd say more than 50% of the time they do offer some sort of coupon. And you can usually print two/computer.
A few I found in a few minutes of searching to prove my point...
$1/1 Olivia's Organics
$1/1 Crunchmaster Gluten Free crackers
$1/1 Udi's products (my favorite Gluten Free bread)
$1/1 Better Oats
Horizon Organic Milk coupon
So the next time someone mocks you for using coupons and insists you only consume pizza rolls and lard filled cupcakes, send them my way. I will set them straight in two shakes of a stick. I've never had a pizza roll or a Twinkie ever. And I use coupons. True story.
If people are still not into coupons for healthy, wholesome foods, they can still use coupons on non-food items. We all know that we can save mega bucks by using coupons for baby products, bath and beauty products and cleaning products. For example, I no longer pay for make-up, toothpaste, lotion or toothbrushes. Take that savings and buy those organic apples you've been hoping to taste.
But please for the love of savings, don't give up on coupons!

Bread Deals
I can't actually eat regular bread but I do the shopping for my dad too and he goes through bread like nobody's business. But is also very particular about bread. He could go the rest of his life eating Freihofer's Oat Nut bread I do believe. Which runs nearly $4 a loaf at Price Chopper.
Now I usually stock up when they have their buy one, get two free sale but this last sale, the Oat Nut wasn't included. Drats. And as I absolutely refuse to pay full price for something that I know does eventually go on sale, I figured out the next best thing.
I happened to notice the Hostess outlet over near K-mart on Old Route Whatevernuberthatis. 2 or 7? I don't know. By Kmart and Grace Bible. I ran in to see what it was all about and found out that they have rockin' deals on bread.
I went in for the second time this week and found this flavor that dad announced he really likes, over on a sale shelf. It normally run $1.99/loaf. A good deal as it is very close to the Oat Nut bread. But the expiration date on this is quickly approaching so they were marked down to just $1.09/loaf. I bought all four and popped 3 in his freezer. For four loaves of oat bread, I paid just $4.36!
If you like Archer Farms (Target) bread, it turns out Hostess is their baker. So that stuff is in there too.
I really need to check out the Freihofer's outlet as that's what he prefers but I never think of it when I am over that way. Have y'all had luck in there?
