Walmart Finds
I was over by the big Walmart for a meeting yesterday so I braved the crazy and went inside. I had more of the beloved $1/1 (any size) Cascade coupons so I snagged six bags of the trial size. I have a HUGE supply of the Finish tabs so I don't feel like I am wasting a high value coupon on the trial size. Plus I am thinking those might be a cute topper for a housewarming gift.
And I don't really know what these are but with the coupon, I paid @$0.50 total for those two boxes of little take along pads. I don't buy many donate items that aren't free but decided that might be something folks need. I tend to donate a lot of baby formula so I was thinking that they went along with my baby/prego momma theme.

Organic Produce, Dairy, Gluten Free Bread and More at Price Chopper
I'm not giving the breakdown of my trip because the sales change in a few hours. I did this in 5 transactions though. I RARELY do that. Typically two is my max. But it was like after 8PM on a Saturday night so the store was very empty. I knew I could get away with it. I was really just trying to get the biggest bang for my double coupons.
But a few highlights...
* Land-o-lakes Cinnamon Butter Spread. Reg. $2.59, sale $2.
But on the very door of the case were two pads of coupons for $0.75/1. Doubled, they were just $0.50 each! I would never normally buy this kind of thing. I am a butter and only butter kind of girl. And use it mostly for baking. But figured this would be yummy on breads and muffins as a treat. Remember that butter freezes well.
* Olivia's Organic greens. Reg. $3.99.
But there was a pad of coupons sitting just to the left for $1/1. I used the PC $1 doubler coupon and it was just $1.99! Not bad for a big box of organic greens!
* Lays Chips. Reg. $3.49, sale $3.
But there were several pads of coupons right there for $1/2. Using the PC $1 doubler coupon, they were just $2/each! I know that's not the best price but it's still pretty good.
* Bailey's Creamer. Reg. $2.69.
I had a $1/1 coupon and used the PC $1 doubler. So they were just $0.69/each! Now that is actually a fantastic price if I do say so myself!
Items purchased...
(3) Bailey's Creamer
(3) Cliff Mojo Bars
(1) Oliva's Organic Greens
(1) Dole Fruit Bites
(4) Lays Kettle Chips
(2) Philly's Swirl Pops
(2) Udi's Gluten Free Bread
(1) Price Chopper frozen broccoli
(1) Gallon milk
(1) Price Chopper butter
(4) Land-o-lakes Cinnamon butter
(3) Activia French yogurt
(3) Activia Greek yogurt
(1) Florida's Natural orange juice
(1) Mariani Appricots
(2) Boneless Pork Chops 4 pack
(1) Bananas 2.65 lb
(1) Nectarines 3.21 lb
Total value purchased ... $99.34
Paid out of pocket ... $54.38
Percentage saved ... 45%
But the lesson I want to point out is highlighted by the greens, cinnamon butter and chips. Keep your eyes open for coupons floating around the store! I saved $6 tonight from those coupons (plus the doubler) alone! And that included organic produce. Something non-couponers claim to never offer coupons.
Before I started couponing in January, I rarely noticed pads of coupons. Now I am like a hawk and can spot them a mile away. Those are gold mines, my thrifty friends!

Though I am not sure if they are on sale this week. So print the coupon for $0.55/2 and save it for a PChop sale. After the double, it will make for a great deal of just $0.90 for two boxes.

Coupon: Canadian Bacon
When I tell people that I am a crazy couponer, they often roll their eyes and say that they are not because there are never coupons for fresh produce or meat. But those of us who coupon weekly know that to be false. Oh sure, fresh produce coupons are perhaps not as available as a box of cereal coupon. But they are out there. And even if they are not, when I don't have to pay for things like deodorant, body soaps, toothpaste, shave cream, and get huge huge discounts at grocery stores, I can certainly afford to buy an extra bag of fresh produce.
But today is an example of a great high-value meat coupon. And things like this freeze great so if you find a sale, buy several and then just pop them in the freezer.

Better Than A Coupon...FREE Furniture
Now this is not an every day thing for me, but I'd say I find and keep about one nice piece of free furniture every or every other year. I just keep my eyes open while walking the dog and driving around town. And once in a while...it pays off big time.
The other day, I found this gem of a table tossed out by my neighbor's trash in the back ally. Laying on it's side in the rain. I saw it as I left and an hour later when I returned, it was still there. Calling my name. And drying nicely in the sunshine.
This is a terrible photo of it drying with both leaves out. But the table is in excellent condition and looks to date back at least 100 years- possibly even 150 years.
A great condition antique side table.
For FREE.
Keep those peepers open, my thrifty friends! You just never know when you might find a fun little free treasure.

FREE Cascade, Degree Deodorant and Tide Laundry Detergent
Well I am STILL waiting for my Sunday paper to be delivered. Last week it took me until Wednesday. This week...well we'll just have to see. Times Union...I seriously do not understand you! You still make it nearly impossible for anyone without a 518 phone number to subscribe and then you rarely deliver the service I've already paid for.
But for those of you lucky enough to get your Sunday paper on an actual Sunday, there are some great deals at Walmart this week!
The P&G set of coupons contains a $1/1 coupon for Tide detergent (any size), Cascade (any size) and Degree deodorant (any size).
Pick up the travel size (single use) pack of Tide detergent, travel size Degree deodorant and trial size 3-pack of Cascade dishwasher tabs for FREE!
I've never actually seen the Cascade 3-packs in person- just on blogs. Has anyone else in the Cap Region spotted them?

New Flip Flops For Under $3 - A Tutorial
I've had this idea in my head for years and years now. But never sat down to put thought to ribbon. Why? No idea. This was a ridiculously easy, cheap and fast project. Make your own Switch Flops!
I had the ribbon at home already. My word, I own more ribbon than My Martha. And I had the old pair of flops. And the jewel do-dads. So the only purchase was for sticky Velcro at Walmart. I think it was around $2.50. And I used nearly the entire package to make one complete pair of flops. However two packages would make THREE complete pairs of flops.
What you need...
* Pair of flip flops
* Package of self stick Velcro
* @ 1 yard of ribbon (I needed less but each shoe is a bit different)
* thread/iron on no-sew stuff
* cheap scissors
* 2 straight pins or close pins or paperclips
* accessories/gems/flowers/bows
Directions...
* Chose an old pair of clean flip flops. Or a cheap new pair that you find on clearance.
* Measure out how much ribbon you will need and add two extra inches. Cut two- you know- one for each shoe.
* Fold ribbon in half, right sides together. If your ribbon has a design on it, make note of which way you would like your design to face. Sew the center on the diagonal so that when open, it forms the shape of the flop. Trim the excess ribbon so that it opens without a big triangle hanging down the center. Repeat with second ribbon.
* Pin the ribbon in place on the flip flops and determine where you want each of the sides to end. Fold under, wrong sides together. Pin in place (I actually just held this with my hand but I am trying to make my directions significantly less allovertheplace). Sew and then trim excess ribbon.
* Good news, the sewing part is over. Pretty painless, right?! If you really cannot sew, you could use that no-sew iron tape stuff. But seriously the sewing part is so easy. Just give it a whirl!
* Take the Velcro out of the package and work on one shoe at a time. In order to get the most for your money and waste as little as possible, you need to do the opposite treatment to each shoe. So the first shoe, use the fuzzy side of the Velcro on the ribbon's wrong side. And the hook side of the Velcro on the shoe's right side. On the second shoe, use the hook tape on the shoe and the fuzzy tape on the ribbon. If you don't do this, you will need more than one package per pair of shoes if you plan to make several pairs of ribbon straps.
* So measure out how much Velcro tape you will need for each part being covered. And use a cheap pair of scissors to cut the Velcro. (cheap because the sticky back of the Velcro will get all over the scissors. You should be able to get it off by running it though the dishwasher but just in case, don't use your good sewing scissors.)
* Peel off the sticky back and stick it to the shoe/ribbon.
* I hot glued a snazzy jewel that I had on hand to the center. This is optional. It looks just fine without anything. But it also looks cute with a flower or bow or button...
So there you go, I turned an old blah pair of flops into a cute little ribbon pair for less than three buckaroos. It took me mere minutes to accomplish too.
Now if you pick up a second package of the sticky Velcro, you should be able to make two more, for a total of three, ribbon straps to interchange. Just like Switch Flops. But at a fraction of the price and limited only by your imagination. Just remember to use the correct hook/fuzzy side of the tape for each shoe.
