Target Deals

You know how sometimes you score with a dream cashier?  Well this is the opposite of that.  I picked the WRONG cashier at Target last night.  However, I kept my cool (on the outside anyway- sweating like a piggy on the inside of course) and stood my ground.  And walked away with all of this for just pennies.

Purchased ...

TGI Friday's Entree for One  sale $1.99
- $1/1 Target print coupon
- and $1/1 TGI Friday's Entree for One 10/23 SS
= FREE!

NYC Nail Polish  $0.97
- $1/1 NYC Color Cosmetics Item Target print coupon
= FREE!

Johnson & Johnson Travel First Aid Kit  $0.99
- $1/1 Johnson & Johnson coupon
= FREE!

Aveeno Travel Size Lotion
- $1/1 Aveeno Any Size Lotion coupon
= FREE!

This transaction was a pain for two reasons.  First the cashier.  Bless her heart, she meant well.  Interpret that as you will.  The second was that I was foolish not to put a pack of gum or candy (as I did last night at Rite Aid with the Reese's) on the belt too to absorb the overage.  Cashiers like to accuse you of wrong-doing when it comes to them needing to mark down coupons.

But in the end, I got all of that for FREE.  Just paid $0.14 in tax.   So it worked out.  Albeit a lengthy process that made me feel rather low, thanks to an unfortunate cashier.

Total value purchased ... $29.93
Paid out of pocket ... $0.58
Percentage saved ... 98%
Earned ... (2) $2 +up Rewards from Hershey's and (2) $2 +up Rewards from Theraflu

Rite Aid Black Friday On Saturday

So I do not shop on Black Friday.  Honestly, I think it's crazy.  And not in a good way.  But on Saturday afternoon, I happened to notice that my $18 in Rite Aid +up Rewards were expiring so I could not use them on Sunday.  Ahhh!  I got my act together and headed over to Rite Aid ASAP.

Of course they were sold out of most of the best deals.  Really though I just wanted to use my +up Rewards, even if I couldn't roll them.  That's just a ton of free money to let go to waste.

So this shop was very random.  The Hormel meals are for my dad who likes them for lunch sometimes.  I personally think they smell gross and are over-priced.  But these four were on clearance for $1.64 (regularly $3.29) and again, I needed to use up my +up Rewards.  Oh and not pictured was a $2 eyeglasses string thing that I forgot to take out of the bag- also for dad.  The Fuze drink is sort of random too.  I had a RA coupon for $0.75/1 as well as a manufacturer coupon (made by CVS- but said manu) for $0.75/1 so the drink was just $0.19.  But when you factor in my 10% automatic discount, I actually made $0.07!!  Perfect timing as I was thirsty.

So after coupons and $18 in +up Rewards, I paid just $1.07 (before taxes) for $36.51 worth of product.  And earned $8.99 in +up Rewards.  Not bad for having no plan in place and the store being sold out of nearly every deal I hoped to take advantage of.  Not too shabby at all!

CVS Black Friday Part II

I ran out to CVS this evening to see if I could snag a few more items that I was unable to get at the first store on Thursday.  Mainly I wanted the Finish.  But this store was out too.  They did have the Benefiber and Excedrin though.  And they let me use my $2/1 Benefiber coupon- didn't mark it down as I expected them too.  Score!

So for what you see here, I paid out of pocket just $0.48.  And earned $0.99 and $1.49 in ECB's.

I have a LOT of ECB's that I get to roll this month!  Woo hoo!!

CVS Thanksgiving/Black Friday Haul

OK I am not giving you my break down because while I am pleased with my shopping trip, I could have been much better.  I went in with two possible lists.  One was a three transaction list and the other was a four transaction list.  However, my store, while completely awesome, was already out of several items.  And once there, I decided not to buy any more deodorant and toothpaste.  Because I really just do not need more.

So my original play lists were all wonky.  I stood in a quiet aisle and re-worked things.  Because I had a turkey in the oven so I had to get this all wrapped up.

Instead of listing what I did, I will just tell you that I did this in two transactions.  I should have done three to lower my out of pocket costs.  I also started out with $11 ECB from previous weeks.

So for everything above, I paid out of pocket (before tax) $7.36.  And earned (as in not yet spent- I did roll all of my ECB's from transaction #1 into #2) $28.87 ECB's that don't expire until 12/24!  So in theory (because I don't actually think this way but I know most do), I made a profit of more than $21!  I basically paid for the nail polish kit and got everything else for FREE!

FREE Turkey Stock

So first, when I had a down hour, I ran over to my favorite CVS (read: not the one closest to me) to pick up as many free deals as I could.  They didn't have everything (out of Finish, Benefiber and Theraflu) but it was still a great haul.  I'll get photos up by tomorrow morning.

But while there, I met the BEST cashier ever.  So I am forever ranting that this CVS is the best of all drug stores.  But today took the cake.  Not only was my cashier super nice and super sweet about me using coupons, but she also uses coupons!  We could have stood there talking coupons for an hour if I didn't need to get back to my turkey.  How fun!  I really hope we can chat again because I think we each have very different insight regarding sales and such.

OK but back to the turkey.  Or specifically turkey stock.  Don't throw those bones away after you have picked it clean of meat.  Set them aside alone with any uncooked veggies you have too.  I only had a big bag of celery (from Price Chopper's BOGO free sale) so that's exactly what went in my pot.  All of the bones from the turkey, giblets if you didn't accidentally throw them away like I did, all of the celery- including leaves (which have the most flavor by the way- never ever throw those out!) cut in large chunks (or onion and carrots too), salt, pepper and as much water as you can fit.  I used a GIANT pot.  The pot I use for water bath canning.  Having stock on hand makes such a difference in quick meal prep, not to mention the great flavor.

Then just bring the water to a low simmer and let it go for as long as you have.  An hour or two if you have the time.  Don't boil- just a low simmer.  Low and slow, baby.  To get ever bit of yummy, rich flavor out of those turkey (or chicken) bones.  When you make it yourself, it's gluten free, dairy free and possibly even organic.  For next to nothing out of pocket.

Then strain the liquid to remove all the bits of bone, fat, veg, etc.  Portion into plastic containers and freeze until needed.  Practically free and incredibly yummy turkey broth.  To use instead of water when making rice, in soups and stews and chowders, to baste meats, drink from a mug when sick, and any other way you can think of to use stock.

Amazing Deal On Groceries...Including GLUTEN FREE

Y'all, I find myself buying more and more online.  Especially when it comes to gluten free products.  There are just so many more options available to me in online stores.

I just found this fantastic website last night and am already in love.  If you follow this link to sign up, they will email you a coupon code for $10.  I bought $10.32 worth of products that were just $0.32 after the coupon!!  After shipping it was a little more than $5.  For several normally pricey gluten free items.

These are hands down my favorite pretzels and they are GLUTEN FREE to boot!

But they have much more than gluten free food products.  They have all sorts of things from dairy and egg free to organic to gourmet to baby foods to snacks to everyday favorites.

And the best part is that you don't even need to get out of bed!  Not that I ordered from bed.  OK...I totally did.

It's totally free to sign up.  Just click the link, put $10 worth of products in your cart, check your email to find the $10 coupon code, and relax knowing fun products are coming your way with little effort and even better, little funds.  If you are still thinking about Christmas, think about having some easy favorites (pastas, nuts, Lara Bars, etc) on hand.  Or make up a yummy food gift basket for a best friend or a family gift exchange.

Better Than Free At Walmart...But For A Price

I picked this up on Sunday evening but am just getting around to posting now.  You see, I lost those $6/2 Schick coupons a long time ago.  So not like me.  But I found them on Sunday morning- the day they were to expire.  So I ran over to Walmart and picked up what you see above.  I also used the FREE Dr. Pepper 10 coupons.

Which made this transaction a money maker for me.

But...

Oh there is always a but at Walmart.

The cashier.

Always the cashier.

She said I shouldn't be allowed to use the coupons because it would make my total so low.  I replied, cheerfully and with confidence, that it would actually make it a money maker and she would owe me cash.  I referred to their coupon policy.

She said she had to ask someone.  OK, I said cheerfully, knowing I was 100% following the Walmart Coupon Policy.

But she just stood there.  Like a bump on a log.  For at least five minutes.  When the store was fairly empty so there was no reason she couldn't ask for a manager.  Just stood there.

Finally I asked what the hold up was and she said she had to ask a manager because she knew I couldn't use these coupons.  I again said OK.  So she again stood there.  Didn't pick up her phone.  Didn't motion to a single person.  Didn't make her number sign blink (they do that at Target- not sure if they do it too at Walmart).  Just stood there.  Motionless.  Except when she would stare at the coupons.

Again, after about five minutes I asked what was going on.  So she left her station to go stand in the customer service line.  Behind like 10 other people.  Five or more minutes later, never reaching the customer service desk (I had a full view of this strange move), she returned showing me that the coupon states one coupon per purchase.  I said yes, purchase.  Items purchased.  I was purchasing four items.  The word purchase does not mean transaction.

She walked away.  Ticked off at me.

So then she went and stood in the manager office.  I could see her but not the manager.  But she was there for over five minutes.  Are you adding up the time so far?

Finally she came back, disgruntled that she was likely told I was completely in the right, and put it through, grumbling under her breath.

Finally, the cashier next door asked if she needed help.  And lo and behold, without the help of a single person, it all worked just fine.

Seriously!  I stood there for more than 20 minutes because this girl was likely never trained.  In anything.  From the store coupon policy to how to act with a general polite attitude.

In then end she handed me @ $3.  Which was the only reason I went to Walmart in the first place.  Because I knew I would make a few bucks.

Sadly, this is one of my better Walmart stories.

Price Chopper Thanksgiving Deals

There are some really fantastic deals running at Price Chopper right now that you might find important to have on hand this Thanksgiving.

* OK so first up is the Dr. Pepper.  I used the FREE coupon finally.  It expired yesterday but it took me until then to find it anywhere.  This was my first taste of Dr. P actually.  It's OK.  Very sweet.  Like Cherry Coke, if I can remember that correctly.  Anyway, free is for me so I brought it home.

* Pomegranate $2.  There is a $0.05/1 PC store coupon at the pharmacy counter.  Pair that with the $1/1 any Pom Wonderful product to just $0.50!!  That's an incredible price on such an ordinarily expensive piece of fruit!

* Chopped clams on sale for $1.  I add these to pasta sauces and of course clam chowder.

* Ocean Spray cranberry sauce on sale for $0.88/each.  Use $1/2 print coupon to bring your total down to $0.76 when you buy two or just $0.38/can!  I prefer that old school shaped like a can sauce when eating turkey as a main course and then I use the chunky sauce when making a Thanksgiving sammy over the weekend.

* And the best deal of all has to be the Domino Light Brown Sugar, on sale for $2/bag.  Use the $0.75/1 Price Chopper coupon paired with the $0.50/1 manufacturer coupon to bring your total down to just $0.25/bag!  Over the last two days I purchased three bags and should be set for the next year (or close to it depending on the amount of chocolate chip cookies I make).

What are your favorite Price Chopper deals this week?  Any unexpected fun finds?

Merry Christmas To Me

So a few weeks ago I finally got up the nerve to wear the skinny jeans that I've owned for nearly a year now.  Purchased for @ $4 at Target after sales and coupon, thankyouverymuch.  That's about my max to spend on anything trendy for fear I may never wear it more than once.

Well I am shocked....truly Shocked!....to tell you that I LOVE them!  Why did no one tell me that they were so stinkin' comfortable and cute?!  Holy cow bell, y'all!  I'm now a woman obsessed.  So far I've only worn them with ballet flats and wellies but I just know they are going to be a dream in normal boots too this winter.  Yay for fun new wardrobe discoveries!

Now on a mission to find more skinnies, I found this incredible deal at Land's End Canvas.  I think Land's End has really made great improvements in the last few years.  I used to think of them as boat totes and fuddy duddy clothes.  But now they are more like a New England version of Talbots (I swear that all makes sense in my head).  And their quality is top notch too.

So with Daddy-o's credit card in hand, I scored this fantastic deal as a Christmas prezzie for myself.  I buy it, send it to him and he wraps it.  I act surprised and we are all happy little elves on Christmas morning.  It's a good system.

Details...
* Go through ShopAtHome.com to earn 8% cash back.  All you have to do is click the link and sign up.  Easy peasy.
* Click "Shop Now" which takes you directly to Land's End.
* Then click on the link to "Land's End Canvas" on the top right- this will only work on the Land's End Canvas site.  (you can also skip the ShopAtHome site and go directly to Land's End Canvas)
* Find jeans or cords (or anything but I bought one pair of skinny jeans and one pair of skinny cords) on sale for $16.99 (down from $59.50 originally) and add them to your cart.
* Begin the check-out process.
* In the section where it asks for a credit card, towards the bottom right it has a place to enter a promotional code.  BEFORE entering your credit card info, click that promo code button.  Enter code : DISCOVERLE and PIN # 6702.
* This will bring your final cost of a single pair of pants to just $12.47 (+ tax) and also give you FREE SHIPPING (magic words to my ears this time of year!), PLUS 8% cash back too!
* For my two pairs that you see above, plus tax, they were just $26.50 shipped!

I bought the two pairs you see above and can't wait to start wearing them after Christmas.  I did exactly as I stated above and had zero problems.  I will say that you should always read reviews.  It appears that some pants run small, short, tall, etc.  So read reviews (right under the item you are looking at) to figure out your sizing.  Based on the reviews, I decided to order one size up in the jeans.  Here's hoping they all fit well!

Thanks Hip2Save!

CVS...Finally Found A Great Money Maker!

**This was scheduled to post a week ago but didn't for some unknown reason.  So this was a deal last week.

I am headed out of town and needed to use up $5 ECB that expired today.  But like Rite Aid, there was just nothing I wanted/needed/even liked.

Until I found out that the Aveeno lotion deal would work on the travel size.  But two, earn a $7 ECB!  Perfection!

I also never thought to use my father's card too.  Duh!  I won't do it often as it means I have to keep track of more stuff.  But I did it today to get the free Illi coffee and the Aveeno money maker.  So that's why you see two coffee cans and four lotions.  The milk was to use up the rest of that ECB.

Total value purchased ... $13.93
Paid out of pocket ... $2.97
Earned ... $14 ECB

FREE And An Explanation

First...I am sorry to have been absent.  It's going to continue though for another week or more.  I was out of town last week/end for a conference.  I've been back for a few very hectic days.  And I'm about to head back out of town for a full week.  This time, purely for pleasure though.  Yay!

I will try to schedule a few posts but the truth is, I am very overwhelmed at the moment.  I know y'all understand what that is like.  So the blog might be sparse for the next 10 days.

BUT...I absolutely promise that things will get back to ship shape and far better when I get back.  I have big plans to be better about this blog, linking to our favorite coupons, and remembering to photograph my grocery deals.

So please hang with me.

Until then, head over to Bruggers today as they are giving away free cups of coffee to everyone.  Until 2PM.  I could use a vat of coffee right about now so this is perfect timing.

Thanks for being such sweet couponaholic blog buddies and for understanding.  Again...I promise....when I am back in town I will be re-vamping this blog.  Better blogging ahead.  But not for another 10 days at least.  Florida sunshine is calling my name....

Gluten Free At Price Chopper

Living gluten free is really catching on.  One of my daily coupon reads, I Am That Lady, now talks about gluten free foods pretty regularly.  I love not being the only one looking for GF deals.  Especially since a great GF deal is often more than a full price of a non GF food.

I've started to see these tags all over at Price Chopper stores.  Noting all sorts of foods for being gluten free.  Way to go Pchop!

Love it!

It Pays To Pay Attention : My Story About FREE Bread

A few weeks ago I was shopping at Price Chopper.  As I was leaving on that dark, cold, rainy evening, I happened to look down in the parking lot.  To spot a little coupon sheet with three or four coupons.  I picked it up and after loading up my car and drying off a little, I looked at the wet, wrinkled coupons.  To find that one of them was for a FREE package of King's Hawaiian roles, up to $2.99.

Then this week in a different Price Chopper, I glanced over towards the hot, prepared foods (a section I never shop in).  And what did I spy with my little eye?  A sign and display for Buy One Get One Free King's Hawaiian rolls.

So because I kept my peeper open at two different Price Chopper markets, I scored two packages of rolls (given to a non GFer) for totally FREE!  No clipping, no researching deals.  Just pure good luck for paying attention.

Wasting My Money At Rite Aid...To Avoid Losing +Up Rewards

I had $18 in +up Rewards that needed to be used this week at Rite Aid.  However there wasn't a single deal that I wanted (or found).  As I am going out of town, I had to just find something to spend them on.  I don't like it when this happens because it feels like such a waste.  But such is life.  I don't want them to expire.  And I was out of time to figure out any other game plan.

I did have a $2 Garnier coupon and a $0.50/2 Snickers coupon.  The rest, pure +up Rewards.

Total value purchased ... $22.45
Paid out of pocket ... $0.77
Percentage saved ... 97%
Earned ... not a darn thing other than not wasting precious store funny money.

Coupon Rumble...Kate Gosselin Blogs.

image

Before I start in on this hot coupon topic, let me state that I am not a Kate Gosselin fan.  Nor am I a hater.  I honestly just don't care either way at this point.

I think she seems like a pretty good momma.  And it bugs me to no end when she gets criticized for working instead of staying home to "take care of her kids."  Working does not make for a bad parent.  I just think that is the most unfair critical statement towards her.  No one ever criticizes Reese Witherspoon (love love her!) or Kelly Ripa or Elizabeth Hassleback for being working moms.  Both Kelly and Elizabeth are popular, in part, because they talk about their kids publicly.  Justin Bieber and Dakota Fanning are adored child entertainers.  No one is picking apart their parents' choices to let them work at baby ages.  She also gets picked apart when she travels for work or goes out for an evening.  Yet no one would ever criticize a man who travels for work.  Or a woman who has a girls night out or weekly meeting at church or Junior League.

The double standard seems to come in to play because people don't like Kate's personality.  Listen, I could never imagine being pals with her if that's how she is in person.  But just because I don't want to hang out with someone doesn't mean they are the Wicked Witch of the West.

I have seen my fair share of Kate and family shows.  All of the early specials and episodes.  It is well documented that Kate is a big couponer.  Featured on many episodes and specials.  And even if she wasn't, who the heck cares?

Coupon bloggers are all up in arms that Kate Gosselin has a new part time gig blogging about coupons.  Like it's going to personally affect their lives.  Or harm them somehow.  It's a dang blog.  If you don't like her, just don't read it.  That's what I do with all of the Real Housewives of Namethatcity shows.  They bother me.  So...now are you sitting down because this is revolutionary...I just don't watch.  I know.  You're impressed.

Among other spins on the news, I've read comments irrationally fearing that her presence in the coupon blog world is going change store coupon policies.

Ridiculous.  Coupon policies are constantly changing.  Long before TV shows and long after them.  And here in the Albany area, they have absolutely improved.  Price Chopper now has double coupons!  Target will take more than one of a like Target store coupon in a transactions!  Shop Rite came to town (I've yet to go though)!  Hannaford and Price Chopper are offering better store coupons each week that often result in free items!!

Yes, more people are attempting to join the extreme coupon world.  But it has a heck of a lot more to do with a decade of a miserable economy than a cable TV show.  A 10 year recession is a fine motivation to learn to stretch your pennies.  The popularity of Susie Orman and Dave Ramsey are also contributors to Americans becoming interested in saving money.  People want to be more responsible.  As My Martha would say, it's a good thing.

But Kate Gosselin and a reality shows on cable are not what drive folks to use coupons.  They are entertainment.  To think otherwise is to also think that Snookie and any of the Real Housewives of NJ represent Italian Americans.  Which is absurd.

The funny thing to me, which might just make a few enemies by saying as much, is that every single person I've read who is up in arms about Kate also has ads on her blog.  Meaning you are making money from your blog/website.  Many also do appearances, teach classes, have Facebook pages, Twitter accounts and more.  Pot, kettle, black, y'all.

Just like losing weight or learning a second language, couponing takes a lot of time and dedication.  No one watches The Biggest Loser and suddenly becomes a weight loss success story.  It requires research, trial and error, learning, good days and bad days, motivation, motivation, hard work and motivation.

So the bottom line is that if you don't like Kate, just don't watch/read/whatever.  It's a blog, not the Bible.  Simmer down.  Have a glass of free whateversinthepantry.  And don't get hysterical because some mom in PA is going to be a very part time blogger.  I don't think the world of couponing is coming to an end.  Who knows, she might even be good at this job.

And that's all I have to say about that.

FREE Sample : Raisels

This is a new product and they are giving away free samples.  However, it is running very slow.  So far I've not been able to get it to work.  So fair warning.  Click the image to like them on Facebook and then click the free sample tab to hopefully request yours.

Rare Flour Coupon

This is one of the only times I've ever seen a coupon for flour.  I know a lot of coupons whine about how the TLC show is ruining their lives, but I honestly think the popularity of couponing is encouraging more products to jump on the band wagon.  This is an awesome $0.50/1 coupon as it will double at Price Chopper to $1/1!  Print now and save as I am sure we will find sales with the approaching holiday season!  As always, click the image to print the coupon.
